Mobile Smart Sites are a stand alone content managed microsites (or just smaller web sites). They are specifically optimised for mobile bandwidth. This is quite different to how a normal site is constructed. The information displayed is short and concise with images kept to a minimum. Mobile sites need to load fast and deliver information over a much slower connection.
How does it know it's a mobile? Your existing site can be set to auto detect a mobile device and send it to the optimised mobile version. The option is also available to view the full site if the visitor prefers. Take a look at this example on your mobile. smartsitepro.co.uk/mbl

A mobile web site will enhance you business profile by:
- Providing information to your customers on the move
- Search engines recognise that you are a responsible web publisher, thats got to be good!
- Increases the likelihood of being found
- Content managed so they're fast and easy to update
- More people are accessing the internet via mobiles than desktops
- Use of QR codes for links, promotions and information
- Auto detect from your main web address to the mobile address
- At the moment you'll be one of the few, putting you ahead
Using QR codes to send visitors to your mobile site.
What are QR Codes?
QR is short for 'Quick Response' (they can be read quickly by a mobile phone). They may not be the prettiest thing you've ever seen but, WOW they do a good job!
You will see QR Codes in magazines, on a advertising boards, a web page or even a T-shirt. Once it's been scanned by your phone, it will give details about that business (allowing users to search for nearby locations), or details about the person wearing the T-shirt, show you a web link to your mobile site, or it may give you a discount voucher which you can use when making a purchase.

Scan this code |
The reason why they are more useful than a standard barcode is that they can store (and digitally present) much more information, including web links, geo coordinates, and text. The other key feature of QR Codes is that instead of requiring a chunky hand-held scanner to scan them, many modern mobile phones can scan them. QR code readers are free. Just search your App store for 'QR readers'
Your business, could use QR codes in a number of ways.
You might auto generate one next to every product on your web site containing all the product details, the number to call and the URL link to the page so they can show their friends on their mobile phone. You could add one to your business card containing your contact details so its easy for someone to add you to their contacts on their phone. You can also watch this 'BBC Click' interview on You Tube.

Mobile Websites and Search Engines
- There is no actual SEO criteria for stand alone mobile websites, Google are using actual usage demographics - in other words
- If your website has a separate stand alone mobile website Google will rank it higher than a website that does not.
- If you stand alone mobile site gets clicked on, this is positive factor in ranking the site
- Only 21% of businesses have a stand alone mobile websites
- The chances of ranking highly on the Google Mobile criteria are very high at present because of the lack of competition
- This will change very quickly as more and more businesses realise that they are losing business by not having a mobile website
- The earlier your website is ranked on Google Mobile the easier it will be to keep it on the front page.
